anchorThe Jamaica Plain Open Studios (JPOS)
is an annual weekend-long celebration of the arts that enables Jamaica Plain artists to display and sell their original work.

outside eliot school A volunteer-driven event, JPOS takes place in artistsí homes and studios as well as group sites and businesses throughout Jamaica Plain.

JPOS reflects the vibrancy and diversity of our neighborhood, and strengthens a dynamic community of artists, patrons, and supporters. Artists network with each other, meet an enthusiastic audience, display and sell work, and have fun!

Bill Shamlian at footlights anchor JPOS History and Mission: JPOS was started in 1993 by a group of artists in the Amory Street building. They set aside one weekend in the fall to invite the public into their spaces to see their work and tour their studios.

The group eventually became the Jamaica Plain Arts Council, a non-profit organization charged with the running of the Open Studios as well as fulfilling their mission: to support artists in the Jamaica Plain community through the Open Studios event, exhibitions, professional development and cultivating the audience.

As one of the oldest Open Studios programs in New England, JPOS continues to expand and promote artists to new audiences every year. JPOS is a fun and unique way for the public to meet the artists, see where art work is created, explore the wealth of interesting neighborhoods in JP and purchase wonderful works of art.

Brewery 6 anchor Becoming a JPOS Artist: JPOS is open to any artist living, showing or working in Jamaica Plain. Artists from outside of the area may also apply to show with local artists in shared spaces or group shows. To apply, stay tuned to our web site or get on our mailing list for when online registration opens up.

anchor Volunteer Opportunities: JPOS is a volunteer driven event. Volunteers help at all levels of the organization including our Marketing, Fund Raising and Planning Committees. We also need help with creative writing, graphic design, organizing group sites, event day management, and distributing promotional materials. If you or someone you know has the skills or desire to help out, please contact our Coordinator.

anchorParking is available on street as well as in the lot behind Blanchard Liquors off of Centre Street. It can be tight, so taking public transportation may be a good idea. The #39 bus travels from one side of JP (Hyde Square), through Centre Street, and ends at Forest Hills.

Also, JPOS is accessible on the orange line at: Jackson Square, Stony Brook, Green Street and Forest Hills. For maps and more information visit: http://www.mbta.com/
