We’re writing to invite you to help lead a tour of public art around Jamaica Plain for Common Boston Week 2010 in June. The tour would be on Saturday, June 19th.

The Mayor’s Office invites Boston artists to make art of overlooked urban forms.

Project Overview

The PaintBox program, organized by the Boston Art Commission, is geared towards the recognition and
celebration of local artists. Through PaintBox, artists are asked to paint City of Boston utility boxes with
original designs. Once professionally painted, these utility boxes in neighborhood business districts will
contribute to the vitality and attractiveness of the urban streetscape and deter graffiti.

The Museum Council of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston is seeking qualified artists, or their representatives, to submit work to a juried silent art auction being held on Saturday, June 12, 2010 at the Museum Council’s 7th annual black tie fundraising event – the Summer pARTy. Proceeds of the sale of the work will be split between the MFA and the applicant. The Summer Party raises funds to benefit the Museum Council Artist in Residency Program. All submissions are due by April 5, 2010. All media are eligible and will be considered. Submissions will be reviewed by a panel of MFA curatorial staff and select Museum Council members. Works by emerging, mid-career, and established artists are encouraged, including secondary market works. Thank you for your support!

This exciting selling event will take place on Saturday November 8 and Sunday November 9, 2008 from 12 noon to 6 p.m. in various locations throughout Roslindale.

Ula Cafe, located at The Brewery at 284 Amory Street in Jamaica Plain, is searching for artists to exhibit their work in the cafe’s large gallery.
All art must be framed for display and cafe-appropriate.

In exchange for the artists being responsible for installing/de-installing/selling their
own work, Ula Cafe does not require a commission on sales.

The Sign of the Dove Holiday Artisans’ Cooperative will jury for new members on Saturday, June 7. Generally located in the Harvard or Porter Square areas in Cambridge, the store operates in the peak holiday gift-buying season of November and December. This is an excellent opportunity for local artists to join a vibrant community of artists to market their work.

The Arts Council is looking for help in four specific areas outlined below. Each has flexible hours and can be done on your own schedule and mostly from home. These are great opportunities for young people to gain experience, or for experienced folks to either share their expertise or try something new. This spring the JP Arts Council is organizing a small scale Studio Stroll so that you – the artists – can actually tour other artists’ studios, network and share resources. Since this isn’t possible during Open Studios in Sept., we are proposing a neighborhood tour on Sunday, June 8.

The Spring Still Life Drop-In sessions, monitored by Ted Cormier, begin this Sunday and run for 6 weeks at the Eliot School.

9 am to 12 noon, followed by a group critique each week.

$5 drop in fee, paid to the school.

No advanced registration required.

The Jamaica Plain Arts Council (JPAC) is seeking small works of 2D and 3D original art for a fund raising event to benefit the JP Open Studios. Open Studios supports over 220 artists from JP and 32 other towns who exhibit and sell their work at 75 sites. We celebrate our 15th anniversary event Sept. 27 – 28, 2008.

The 18th Annual Art in the Round Barn juried exhibition sponsored by the Green Mountain Cultural Center will take place this year from September 23 thru October 8 in Waitsfield, Vermont. City Hall Galleries
In honor of Women’s History Month, Mayor Thomas M. Menino and the Mayor’s Office of Arts, Tourism & Special Events present: 4 Figurative Women Artists from Jamaica Plain.

The exhibition features a wide variety of technique, style, and medium and but the common thread of depicting the human figure and being a woman artist in Jamaica Plain is the bond that brought these artists together.

The YMCA of Greater Boston seeks a full time, enthusiastic graphic artist.

This just in from Bethany Schlegel. Her studio space is going to be available on March 1st.

This space is a block from the Green Street T stop. Running water and a toilet are in the space. First floor space. High ceilings. Parking. 600 square feet.

On February 9th, from 6-8pm, at the Footlight Club, 7A Eliot St. JP, a group of like-minded artists plan to get together and informally discuss plans for a Themed Art Show in that space.

Some of the preliminary ideas that were thrown around were “All Things Eliot Hall”, “The Pond”, “The Monument” and other landmarks of Jamaica Plain.

STAND UP AND BE COUNTED!

The Artists Foundation (AF) has collaborated to create on-line tool, Stand Up
and Be Counted, to better determine how many artists of all disciplines are
living and working in Massachusetts. We are using a broad and inclusive
definition of artists working in all disciplines. It encompasses: visual artists,
musicians, composers, writers, poets, playwrights, new media artists, film
makers, crafts people, actors, singers, performance artists, graphic designers,
lighting designers, dancers, choreographers, and the like.

The CLA Gallery is calling for portfolio submissions for solo and group shows (A Maximum of 3 artists for a group show). Participating artists will be selected by the CLA Staff, with one or more artists being awarded a solo exhibition. Artists working in painting, sculpture, drawing, printmaking, photography, digital media, textiles, mixed media, and installation are eligible. Video work cannot be accommodated at this time. 8 to 10 6-week shows will be awarded to qualified and relevant works that are closely aligned with our mission and goals. Exhibition awards will be scheduled between: September 2008 through August 2010.

Holistic/Process painting class begins Jan. 26 at the Eliot School, Saturday mornings 9:30am-12:30 (taught by Terry Boutelle). This is a method of painting that emphasizes looking at and responding to the whole canvas, and the whole subject: Keeping in mind the relationships between the elements of the subject (e.g., the elements of a still life), rather than focussing on the parts separately, treating the background with the same amount of care and interest as the objects or figures.

Educating Youth, Strengthening Communities

Open Call to Artists!

Citizen Schools, a national after school academic enrichment program that combines hands-on learning activities with academic support, serves 6th and 7th graders after school at the Rogers Middle School on Everett Street in Hyde Park.

The Hyde Square Task Force, together with The UrbanArts Institute at Massachusetts College of Art and Design, is looking for qualified artists to help design the entryway for the newly renovated Mozart Park in Jamaica Plain.

Folks, a lot of people have talked to me about wanting to know more about marketing their work. This is just one of the many different programs that have been popping up lately.

part-time Art Education instructor to teach a new course this Spring of

2008 called “Art Education & Civic Engagement with Special Populations”

Now, officially, we can'’t answer that question without opening the JPAC up to some liabilities that our lawyers frown on. But, we can give our own personal experiences.

Jude Hutchinson is giving a class on marketing your art work. If you don'’t know her, she is a wonderful person with a lot to offer. Her work has been seen in various venues around the area.
