Artists In the Arboretum Exhibition
September 22-October 17, 2010
The Arnold Arboretum and the Jamaica Plain Arts Council are hosting a juried group exhibition to be held in conjunction with JP Open Studios devoted to art inspired by the plants, landscape, and collections of the Arnold Arboretum. Artists do not have to have a studio in or be residents of Jamaica Plain. Art does not have to depict the Arboretum, but should reflect the mission or aesthetic of the institution or the place.
It was the decision of the Board of Directors of the Loring Greenough House, and long time site manager, Carol Summers, to change the status of the Loring Greenough House to private or “hosted artist” during this year’s JPOS.

The Hyde Square Task Force, together with The UrbanArts Institute at Massachusetts College of Art and Design, is looking for qualified artists to help design the entryway for the newly renovated Mozart Park in Jamaica Plain.
On Sunday, I toured the many individual artists’ studios in the Hyde Square neighborhood and was inspired to see where the creative process occurs. I was also able to tour some of the group sites along Eliot and the businesses along Centre Street, ending at the exhibition at Red Sun Press and our newest site at the Central Congregational Church. Everywhere, people were walking with Open Studios maps in hand, some with art in hand, and many in line for a bite to eat at the restaurants.
